Noche Veracruzana -- Conjunto Jardin's 15th Anniversary Concert Gala
with
Alberto de la Rosa
and
Don Fallo Figueroa and Son Candela
Ford Amphitheatre
Los Angeles

Read on for what is going to be a very special event this year -- we're already working on it in early January. Mark your calendar and watch this space as more details become available including tickets!

Sisters Libby and Cindy Harding have been playing the lively music of Veracruz, Mexico known as son jarocho since they were children. They learned from their father, renowned professor Timothy Harding, who in the 1950s and ’60s was among the first in Southern California – or the U.S. for that matter – to expose this music to an audience beyond the confines of its region. Now respected experts in their own right, the sisters bring their band Conjunto Jardín to the Ford Amphitheatre June 2, 2012 for a Noche Veracruzana (night in Veracruz) concert that will celebrate the group’s 15th anniversary. Joining them for this gala event will be two great masters of the genre: Libby’s mentor Alberto de la Rosa, the jaw-dropping harpist from Xalapa, Veracruz who is the acknowledged master of the sparkling upbeat son jarocho style as practiced in the port city of Veracruz, and Don Fallo Figueroa, a leading senior figure from ground zero of the southern, more rural brand of son jarocho – the tiny river town of Tlacotalpan, Veracruz – from whence he brings his quartet of phenomenal young players known as Son Candela.

With elegantly costumed virtuoso dancers, MCs Betto Arcos of KPFK and Rafael Figueroa from Xalapa, Veracruz – also a master of the 10-line poetic form known as decima, the verbal counterpart of son jarocho – and visual design by Reyes Rodriguez of the Latin American gallery/art space Tropico de Nopal, this will be a historic, celebratory event that can be equally appreciated by Latin American music aficionados or anyone who can rock out to a beautiful cultural outpouring of music and fun.
